Cold process soap is handmade by blending plant-based oils and butters with a lye solution (water and sodium hydroxide). This process, called saponification, transforms these ingredients into soap and naturally occurring glycerin. The lye is fully transformed during the process and does not remain in the final bar when properly formulated. This traditional method dates back to ancient Babylon, around 2800 BCE, and remains widely trusted today.
